Ep 240 – The Co-Founder of Real World Scholars on Escaping the Dark Place

The Co-Founder of Real World Scholars on Escaping the Dark Place

As a facilitator for student-aged entrepreneurs, it’s not surprising that this week’s guest is a fount of practical knowledge about growing independent business space. But practical lessons, like finding your people, prioritising relationships, and taking time for yourself can only get you so far. You need to learn how to find “the energy” which pushes you forward, even when it’s not fun, and even when it’s not lucrative.
In this episode of Peers2Peers, powered by Shopify, Co-Founder of Real Work Scholars Elyse Burden joins the podcast to discuss letting some projects die, finding wellness and balance, and working for yourself rather than proving yourself to others.
Elyse Burden:
It might not be the most endearing description, but this week’s guest describes themselves as an ox. Because they just keep going, no matter how much weight is on their backs. The weight of struggling with mental health, the weight of raising two children, and the weight of spending eight years growing a business to help young entrepreneurs contribute to their local communities. This week’s guest is so good at handling weight, her last name is Burden.
Being an ox is an important trait for an entrepreneur, and Elyse Burden knows this first-hand. For eight years she’s carried the weight of building a successful enterprise: Real World Scholars, a non-profit e-commerce platform that facilitates entrepreneurship as a vehicle for learning and support in the classroom. In running Real World Scholars, Elyse has perfected the art of balance by raising two children and educating students all over America. She’s learned to work hard while protecting her mental health and to persevere no matter what.
In this episode of Peers2Peers, powered by Shopify, Elyse joins the podcast to discuss letting some projects die, stepping away to find inspiration, finding wellness and balance, and working for yourself in order to work on your business.
