Ep 205 - The Founder Of Village Micro On The “New School” Of Finance

Today’s ambitious guest wanted a career on Wall Street. Or so he thought. After growing up seeing his grandmother not receive the opportunities she deserved, Donte Miller was aiming high. It wasn’t until he entered the world of old-school finance that he realised that when the system doesn’t work for everyone  – it means it’s not working.

In this episode of Peers2Peers, powered by Shopify, the Founder of grassroots micro-finance organisation, Village Micro, shares how to gain the courage to figure out your path, powering through the two year “excitement gap”, and using finance for good rather than perpetuating cycles.

Donte Miller:

Growing up, Donte Miller’s grandmother was the neighbourhood grandma and chef. From feeding the local kids to ensuring everyone had a safe place to go, her generosity was felt across suburbs. But while her dream was to own a restaurant, limited opportunities meant that she worked as a sandwich artist in Subway. When Donte Miller saw the same cycle occurring in his peers, he knew he had to change his path.

Now, Donte is the Founder of Village Micro, a grassroots micro-finance organisation dedicated to empowering Atlanta entrepreneurs that lack resources.

In this episode of Peers2Peers, powered by Shopify, Donte shares why you don’t have to wait to do something impressive, the new era of creative finance, and how to keep going during the two year “excitement gap”.
