Ep 141 - There Is No Loss In Trying

Lisa Qu  is a fashion designer hailing from Australia but based in NYC. Lisa launched her eponymous label in 2018 when she was a student at Parsons School of Design.

In this intimate episode, Lisa reflects on the unspoken expectations that come with being a child of immigrant parents, navigating through the struggle of thinking ‘we’re not enough,’ and the truths The Devil Wears Prada got right.

Lisa Qu grew up dressing her Barbies in Kleenex wipes and every inch of fabric she could find. If she couldn’t buy Barbie’s royal blue ball gown, she’d make her own.  Not even into a double digit birthday, on the floor, with hands instead of needle and thread, Lisa made something.

Here lies the mentality of Lisa Qu: a girl who sees no barrier to trying.

Flash forward a few years, and a bedroom floor became the stage for a fashion degree at Parsons School of Design. Hands were exchanged for sewing machines, Barbie’s for mannequins and a late night idea became Lisa’s eponymous label ‘Lisa Qu’.

In this intimate and heartwearning interview, Lisa shares how a small town girl ended up in the Big Apple. Why perspective is the antidote to feelings of inadequacy and the harsh reality of making it in the fashion industry.
